Biography

Guy Henderson is a strategic communications & commercial intelligence consultant with a wealth of experience in international affairs.

Previously, Guy worked as an award-winning international news correspondent across Africa, Europe, the Middle East & Central Asia – for networks including CGTN, Al Jazeera, the BBC, Sky News, CNN & NBC.

Guy spent much of January and February 2022 in Ukraine, including leading a team in, and safely out of, Kyiv following Russia’s invasion.

Throughout the pandemic, Guy was a central part of CGTN’s European coverage of the coronavirus outbreak from its earliest days, first from the World Health Organisation in Geneva & then from Germany & the UK.

In February 2019, Guy led a team to the frontline in eastern Syria to cover the fight against Islamic State & the plight of fleeing civilians. His stories were nominated for the Asian Television Awards.

In April that year, he was the first foreign journalist to enter eastern Libya after General Khalifa Haftar launched his offensive on Tripoli.

Between 2011 & 2014, Guy’s Africa-based coverage included the death of former South African president Nelson Mandela, the trial of paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius & exclusively embedding with the UN Intervention Brigade in DRC. Guy also gained rare access to Archbishop Emiratus Desmond Tutu & sparred with firebrand politician Julius Malema.

Guy arrived in Europe in early 2015, as a period of rapid change was gaining momentum across the continent & beyond. He covered the refugee crisis extensively as well as the subsequent political backlash. Diplomacy has also been a focus: from UN-brokered peace talks on Syria & Yemen, to gatherings of the EU, G7/20, NATO & the World Economic Forum. He has also attended meetings of BRICS, the Arab League & the Shanghai Co-Operation Organisation.

In April 2018, Guy was one of the first foreign reporters to enter Uzbekistan after the start of president Mirzayoyev’s reforms. In May that year, he travelled to Saudi Arabia amid a wave of apparent optimism over Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman’s modernisation pledges. A few months later, he was in Istanbul as that optimism was shattered in the wake of the killing of Jamal Khassoggi.

In recent years, Guy has increasingly focusing on stories related to the environment and picked up a New York Festivals Award in 2023 for his film Restoring the Urban Microbiome.
